Corps Member
Corps Members camp and work in the backcountry of Western Colorado. They earn a wage, plus food when required to camp at a project site. Experiential job training involves building and maintaining trails, fences and structures in a backcountry setting. Corps members learn to camp, cook, orienteer, and live in a community setting. The work is both arduous and rewarding. Members also have the opportunity to earn an AmeriCorps Education Award to be put toward higher education (Restrictions apply. See Compensation section below).
Duties:
Corps Members may be expected to camp at least 3 nights per week at their crew's work site. Projects include, but are not limited to: building team dynamics, cooking at camp site when necessary, traveling up to 150 miles or more with crew if required, participating in education activities, and maintaining a good sense of humor. Members are also responsible for the care of tools and are held responsible for their own actions. Physical activities include lifting up to 50 lbs., hiking extensively throughout the day, running a chainsaw and /or working with trail tools, and carrying a backpack with lunch and enough water for the workday as well as designated tools to the work site. And of course, have fun!
Requirements:
No experience necessary! However, you must:
• Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
• Be available for 300 or 900 hours, 40 hours per week, and other hours specified on the Corps Member contract
• Have the ability to appropriately represent the Corps and the AmeriCorps program
• Be between the ages of 16-25
Compensation:
AmeriCorps Education Award:
900 service hours = $2362.50
450 service hours = $1250.00
300 service hours = $1000.00
Starting wage: $7.50/hour
