Welcome!

The Western Colorado Conservation Corps is an AmeriCorps program which offers a unique opportunity for young adults ages 14-25 to work and learn in an outdoor setting. WCCC is committed to serving corps members with conservation minded employment and education. The WCCC works on conservation orientated public service projects in and around Mesa, Montrose, Delta and Gunnison counties. Some specific project areas include the Colorado National Monument, Grand Mesa, Black Canyon, and many more areas of pristine land.

"More important, however, than the material gains will be the moral and spiritual value of such work."  President Roosevelt in promotion of the establishment of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's.

WCCC meets U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Colorado’s own Ken Salazar

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar came to the Grand Junction area to dedicate the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area on August 12th. While at the dedication ceremony, Salazar met with WCCC youth corps members and staff to thank them for their conservation work for the nation’s public lands. It was a great opportunity for WCCC youth to meet one of the nation’s leaders and hear high praise of their hard work directly from Salazar himself.

The Dominguez Canyon Wilderness area is a 66,280-acre expanse covering Mesa, Delta and Montrose counties. The ceremony, organized by the Bureau of Land Management, was the culmination of many dedicated individuals and groups, political as well as environmental. Secretary Salazar has been dedicated to the designation of the Dominguez Canyons as a conservation area for many years. He was born and raised in the San Luis Valley and still calls Colorado home.

WCCC goes solar:

WCCC is working with High Noon Solar (a local Grand Junction company) and Xcel Energy to install a 10 kilowatt grid-tied photovoltaic system. This system will produce approximately 15,500 KWh per year and saves around 33,350 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year.
