WCCC provides work crews of 6-10 young adults for conservation projects with various land management agencies.  Crews are turnkey operations dedicated to getting the job done.  They fill the "third workforce" niche that many agencies find necessary for successful project management.

Potential projects need to have a long-term environmental impact, provide educational potential for crew members, and the work must be meaningful and fulfilling.  The sponsor is responsible for the funding to support the crew for the duration of a given project.

How it works:
  • Project sponsor identifies a potential project
  • Sponsor contacts WCCC to discuss the potential project with staff
  • If a project is deemed suitable, the sponsor and WCCC staff will meet to discuss details of dates, time-lines, costs, type of crew needed, etc.
  • Staff and sponsor then arrange a pre-site visit to work out field logistics

What WCCC provides:

  • A crew of 6-10 young adults, including one Crew Leader and one Education Mentor
  • Logistical coordination
  • Transportation, food, gear, and basic tools for the crew
  • Workers comp and other liability for crew members
  • Project-relevant education
  • Quality and sustainable work
  • Herbicide application supervisor, chainsaw work, and heavy equipment operations

What the sponsor provides:

  • Specialized tools if needed
  • Additional technical expertise if necessary
  • Project materials
  • Funding
