WCCC meets U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Colorado’s own Ken SalazarU.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar came to the Grand Junction area to dedicate the

Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area on August 12th. While at the dedication ceremony, Salazar met with WCCC youth corps members and staff to thank them for their conservation work for the nation’s public lands. It was a great opportunity for WCCC youth to meet one of the nation’s leaders and hear high praise of their hard work directly from Salazar himself.
The Dominguez Canyon Wilderness area is a 66,280-acre expanse covering Mesa, Delta and Montrose counties. The ceremony, organized by the Bureau of Land Management, was the culmination of many dedicated individuals and groups, political as well as environmental. Secretary Salazar has been dedicated to the designation of the Dominguez Canyons as a conservation area for many years. He was born and raised in the San Luis Valley and still calls Colorado home.
